Market Watch

Nymex December gas futures climbed 10.1¢ to $6.034/MMBtu despite the prospect that the supply-demand balance may loosen through the end of the month. Rumors reported by Bloomberg that Freeport LNG could cancel November shipments potentially add another 50 Bcf to storage inventories, while forecasts have end-of-month temperatures moderating closer to long-term averages. Lending support to gas prices is the prospect that a nationwide railroad worker strike could disrupt coal shipments to utilities if unions fail to reach an agreement with railroads. More than half of rail workers will vote on proposed contracts next week.

The 12-month strip climbed 6.1¢ to $5.27; the 2023 strip was up 5.8¢ at $5.23 (Futures contracts).

UGI Corp. announced it had entered into an agreement to develop a renewable natural gas (RNG) project at a dairy farm in upstate New York with Cayuga RNG, a joint venture of UGI subsidiary UGI Energy Services (UGIES) and Global Common Ventures LLC. The RNG project — UGI’s fifth — will modify an existing anaerobic biogas facility at New Hope View Farms in Cortland County, New York to produce about 35 million cubic feet of RNG annually for delivery to a local gas pipeline serving the regional distribution system. UGIES subsidiary GHI Energy will be the exclusive marketer for Cayuga RNG.
