December gas futures fell 19.1¢ Friday to $5.684 per million Btu on its first day as prompt month. The contract has fallen 43.5¢ in two sessions. The 12-month strip was $5.041 with December in the lead; the 2023 calendar strip was off 9.4¢ to $5.02 (Futures contracts).

WTI December crude fell $1.18 to $87.90/bbl, but still up $2.85 for the week.

As compressor maintenance begins to wrap up on Permian egress pipeline Gulf Coast Express, Waha Hub saw the most significant price move of the day, rising $2.30 to $2.90. This compared to benchmark Henry Hub cash prices that were down 38¢ at $4.92. In the Northeast, Transco zone 6 New York went down $1.12 to average $3.34, while Boston-area Algonquin declined $1.09 to average $3.70. Meanwhile, Rockies leader Kern/Opal fell 29¢ to $5.28, SoCal Citygate declined 10¢ to average $5.75 and Northwest Sumas lost 76¢ to average $5.53. In Canada, Alberta benchmark Aeco rose 74¢ to $1.61 (Daily cash prices).

The Texas' upstream oil and natural gas sector added 900 jobs in September, continuing a nearly steady two-year growth streak. The sector, which saw jobs bottom in September 2020, has since added 45,000 upstream jobs in Texas, reaching a high of 202,900 jobs, according to Texas Workforce Commission data cited by the Texas Oil & Gas Association.

The US rig count declined three to 768 last week, up 224 from a year ago, Baker Hughes reported. Gas-directed rigs fell one to 156, up 56 from a year ago, while oil rigs fell two to 610, up 166 from a year ago. The data show the bulk of the increase in year-over-year activity is in the Permian Basin, up 78 rigs to 346, followed distantly by the Eagle Ford Shale, up 30 to 70. The Haynesville Shale rig count is up 24 at 70 (Rig counts).
