Market Watch

US natural gas futures contracts for the coming winter breached $10 per million Btu resistance Monday in early trading, shoring up the bullish narrative of a very tight winter market to come. September futures just brushed the mark, topping out at $9.982 and settling up 34.4¢ at $9.68/MMBtu, a fresh 14-year high. The 12-month strip rose 21.4¢ to $7.827; the 2023 calendar strip was up 13.8¢ to $6.528 (Futures contracts).

WTI September crude fell 54¢ Monday to roll off the board at $90.23/bbl. The new October prompt month fell 8¢ to $$90.36/bbl.

Aeco saw the most significant price move of the day, falling 68¢ to 2¢/MMBtu as Canadian prices continue to be pressured by heavy pipeline maintenance. This compared to benchmark Henry Hub cash prices that were up 70¢ at $9.83. In the Northeast, Transco zone 6 New York went up 73¢ to average $8.86, while Boston-area Algonquin advanced 78¢ to average $9.10. In West Texas, cash prices at the Permian's Waha Hub rose $1.13 to average $8.60. Meanwhile, Rockies leader Kern/Opal rose 62¢ to $8.85, SoCal Citygate advanced $1.18 to average $9.98 and Northwest Sumas gained 53¢ to average $8.70 (Daily cash prices).

Tellurian has awarded Baker Hughes a contract to provide electric-powered Integrated Compressor Line technology and turbomachinery equipment for Lines 200 and 300 feeding the proposed Driftwood LNG export project in southwest Louisiana. “This landmark project and technology will eliminate nearly all emissions for the proposed project, which Tellurian is developing to supply natural gas to a constrained capacity area. We value Baker Hughes’ expertise and look forward to partnering on delivering cleaner solutions for an energy hungry world,” Tellurian President and CEO Octavio Simoes said.
