September gas futures lost 10.6¢ Friday to enter the weekend at $8.768/MMBtu, up 70.4¢ for the week. US natural gas prices have been rising as long-term bearish drivers are being overcome by shorter-term bullish ones. The 12-month strip fell X¢ to $X; the 2023 calendar strip was down X¢ to $X (Futures contracts).

WTI September crude fell $2.25 to $92.08/bbl, up $3.08 for the week.

British Columbia's Westcoast Station 2 saw the most significant price move of the day, falling 41¢ to $2.30. Alberta benchmark Aeco fell 46¢ to $2.65. This compared to benchmark Henry Hub cash prices that were up 20¢ at $8.73. In the Northeast, Boston-area Algonquin declined 12¢ to average $7.60. In West Texas, cash prices at the Permian's Waha Hub rose 12¢ to average $7.60. Meanwhile, Rockies leader Kern/Opal was flat at $8.23, SoCal Citygate declined 66¢ to average $10.92 and Northwest Sumas gained 13¢ to average $8.19 (Daily cash prices).

The US rig count fell by one to 763 last week, up 262 from a year ago. Gas-directed rigs fell by one to 160, up 58 from a year ago, while oil rigs rose by three to 601, up 203 from a year ago. The data show the bulk of the increase in year-over-year activity is in the Permian Basin, up 100 rigs to 346 (Rig counts).
