Market Watch

September gas futures finished with a 5.4¢ gain Monday to $8.283 per million Btu, but not before plumbing $7.753 on increasingly bearish weather outlooks and production gains. The recovery apparently stemmed from news that some production at Freeport LNG would resume in October, although Freeport said as much in June. The 12-month strip rose 4.5¢ to $6.751; the 2023 calendar strip gained 3.5¢ to $5.668 (Futures tables).

WTI September crude fell $4.73 to $93.89.

In the Northeast, Transco zone 6 New York went down 30¢ to average $7.54, while Boston-area Algonquin advanced 5¢ to average $8.00. In West Texas, cash prices at the Permian's Waha Hub fell 31¢ to average $7.41. Meanwhile, Rockies leader Kern/Opal fell 42¢ to $7.56, SoCal Citygate declined 26¢ to average $8.96 and Northwest Sumas gained 61¢ to average $7.31 (Daily cash prices).

Enbridge has agreed to take a 30% ownership stake in the $5.1 billion Woodfibre LNG export project in British Columbia. Pacific Energy will retain a 70% stake in the facility. The 2.1 million tons per year (288 million cubic feet per day) LNG terminal is being built near Squamish, BC. The project is underpinned by two long-term offtake agreements with BP Gas Marketing for 15 years, representing 70% of the capacity, with additional commitments in development for up to 90%.
