Market Watch

August gas futures pulled back from recent gains, falling 21.5¢ Tuesday to $7.264 per million Btu. A bit of profit taking following a two-session 87.9¢ rally combined with some bearish tweaks to weather outlooks to let some steam out of the market. The 12-month strip fell 17.1¢ to $6.324; the 2023 calendar strip was down 10.8¢ to $5.39 (Futures contracts).

Meanwhile, Rockies leader Kern/Opal fell 6¢ to $7.29, SoCal Citygate advanced 26¢ to average $8.95 and Northwest Sumas gained 98¢ to average $7.00. In Canada, Alberta benchmark Aeco fell 15¢ to $3.78 (Daily cash prices).

Delfin Midstream aims to sanction its offshore LNG export project later this year, but first it needs to ensure project approval doesn’t expire Sep. 28. The developer of the Delfin Deepwater Port project has asked the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to extend the project’s certificate for another year. This is the fourth extension requested by Delfin LNG, which had been moribund for a decade until European demand revitalized. Earlier this month, Delfin inked a 15-year binding sale and purchase agreement to supply 500,000 tons per year, or 68 million cubic feet of gas per day, to Vitol. Delfin plans to have as many as six floating liquefaction vessels, each producing 3.5 million tons/yr (480 MMcf/d) and tied to a single floating export terminal.
