Analysts are anticipating a larger-than-normal 74 Bcf injection into storage for the week ended Jul. 1 when the Energy Information Administration reports data Thursday. That would raise inventories to 2,325 Bcf, about 11.7% below the five-year average. The Reuters poll consensus compares with a five-year average injection of 60 Bcf and the year-ago build of 25 Bcf. Last week, temperatures brought cooling degree days to 86, above the 77 CDD 30-year average for the period, Reuters reports. Models for the week ending Jul. 8 are for a 66 Bcf injection, with a range from 52 Bcf to 77 Bcf. That compares with a five-year average injection of 55 Bcf and year-ago build of 49 Bcf.

NextDecade said Wednesday it has signed its second LNG offtake deal with a Chinese company in two days. Guangdong Energy Group has agreed to purchase 1 million tons per year from the proposed Rio Grande export project in Brownsville, Texas, for a 20-year term. Supply will be indexed to Henry Hub and delivered on an ex-ship basis. The LNG will come from the terminal's first train, which is expected to start commercial operations as early as 2026. Guangdong also has the right to purchase an additional 0.5 million tons/yr from Rio Grande. On Tuesday, NextDecade announced a deal to supply the same volume of LNG to China Gas Holdings from Rio Grande's second train.
