Upstart pricing service General Index (GX) has joined the race to become the de facto pricing benchmark for Europe’s nascent sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) market. It joins legacy price reporters Standard & Poor Platts and Argus Media. GX launched its new range of daily Rotterdam SAF price assessments on Aug. 23, after beta-testing since June its production cost-based methodology with a select group of SAF industry participants. Initial prices reveal that SAF is twice as expensive as conventional jet fuel and can vary widely depending on economies of scale, feedstock and production pathway.
