The decline in low-carbon investments by oil and gas companies so far this year could turn out to be a blip, but we think it's very possibly an early sign of how changes to corporate transition strategies are filtering through into spending. Investors remain hungry for bumper shareholder returns, but paying these out while simultaneously raising low-carbon spending to levels required by the transition is a tall order for companies.
