Turkmenistan, in a bizarre and strongly worded statement, lashed out at Moscow for appearing to recommend that it join Russia, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan in a proposed gas alliance that would ostensibly attempt to maximize gas exports from the Central Asian region.
