Oil and gas industry players are looking more than ever at clean hydrogen as a niche that leverages their core strengths. Those exploring roles in a future hydrogen value chain include pipeline companies, gas storage players, and retail fuel marketers — but they are approaching with caution given uncertainty about how the hydrogen market will take shape. That was a top takeaway from the Reuters Energy Transition Conference in New York last week, where clean hydrogen’s potential was discussed by nearly every energy company that addressed the gathering.
