Asia Turns to Floating Alternatives Amid FSRU Shortage

Asia is turning to LNG carrier conversions or other floating options to meet a growing urgency to find cheap and fast solutions to import LNG and bridge gas supply shortfalls in emerging markets. Hong Kong and the Philippines most recently received a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) and a floating storage unit (FSU), respectively, to kick-start their first LNG imports. The Philippines is also due to receive its second FSRU later this year.
