Even as global air traffic recovers to pre-pandemic levels this summer, the pandemic has transformed the global airline industry in profound ways. The record number of 800 delegates gathered in Seattle, Washington, this week for the International Air Transport Association's (IATA) Aviation Energy Forum heard that operations were far from business as usual. The sector is not only dealing with enduring dislocations wrought by Covid-19 but also grappling with a very challenging energy transition to sustainable aviation fuels (SAF).
