Overcoming Confusion, Distrust in Carbon Offsetting

Carbon offsetting is one of the most controversial tools in the climate solutions box — decried by critics as greenwashing, but seen as vital by proponents for mobilizing climate finance and wider decarbonization efforts. Part of the problem today is that many different claims are made for offsetting, “which has created a lot of confusion” and “even distrust,” says Hasan Muslemani, who leads the carbon management research program at the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies.
