New LNG importers in Asia are expected to start entering the market this year after spot LNG prices have plummeted over the past few months. Several first-time Asian LNG importers were forced to delay terminal start-ups expected in 2021 and 2022 due to Covid-19-related construction delays and the subsequent record-high spot LNG prices. But Asian spot LNG prices have now dropped under $15 per million Btu since February after peaking to $65/MMBtu last summer, encouraging new and old buyers to reconsider spot procurement.
