The key developers planning initial deployments of the BWRX-300 will jointly fund over $400 million into the generic design completion of GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy's small modular reactor (SMR), which is increasingly on course to be the first commercial SMR built outside of Russia or China. The joint investment will come from a commercial consortium of partners in Canada, Poland and the US, but while GE Hitachi prepares to deploy the BWRX-300 in Canada and then the US, the investment will mean very little in Poland without US government financing.
