Demand: Macro Wobbles Keep Consumption Growth in Low Gear

Oil demand in OECD is whacked by the double whammy of energy inflation and a seasonal downtick in refined fuel consumption. In the US, perky retail gasoline prices are putting household expenditures under strain again, just when credit conditions get tighter. In Europe, the demand dip is partly the effect of the warmer weather, partly the impact of energy conservation measures adopted to mitigate the ongoing energy crisis.
