The nuclear fuel industry is closely watching the US-based Metropolis uranium conversion plant, which is expected to restart production — more or less on time — in two months, as Western governments and nuclear operators attempt to diminish reliance on Russian fuel supply. But over the long term, Westinghouse is looking at a potential restart of its Springfields conversion plant in the UK and even Beijing is contemplating a new conversion facility at Alashankou, on China's border with Kazakhstan.
