As host of COP28 coming this November, the United Arab Emirates is hoping for a summit that "gets things done" and fosters dialogue between many stakeholders — including the oil and gas industry. On one hand, the appointment of Abu Dhabi National Co. (Adnoc) CEO Sultan al-Jaber as COP president last month kick-started criticism around the UAE’s role as host, with many concerned that a fossil fuels producer could dampen collective ambition.
