Both public announcements and private conversations with industry sources all point to Turkey’s first major gas project starting up on schedule at breakneck speed just 32 months after its August 2020 discovery announcement, with the first phase expected to produce 10 million cubic meters per day of gas, equivalent to some 3.65 billion cubic meters per year. Turkey’s ultimate goal is to declare energy independence from foreign oil and natural gas as soon as possible, its veteran President Recep Tayipp Erdogan declared.
