The UK government will spend £679 million ($827 million) on the planned Sizewell C newbuild project, starting with the acquisition of China General Nuclear's 20% stake in the project company and 30% owned by EDF, the government and EDF announced Nov. 29. This leaves a 50-50 project split between EDF and Whitehall, and marks the first UK government investment in a nuclear newbuild in over 30 years.
