The global energy crisis has turned the playing field upside-down for the upcoming UN climate talks in Egypt. Many countries that pledged last year to phase down coal and fossil fuel subsidies are now increasing both in the midst of the Russia-Ukraine crisis. The COP27 talks are due to start in less than three weeks’ time, on Nov. 6, in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh. Energy security and production will be a hot topic of debate there, with host Egypt having promised to bring more industry voices to the table.
