The role of Eastern Mediterranean countries as energy suppliers and energy transition players is coming into greater focus, in the midst of Russia’s war on Ukraine and as the UN climate talks in Egypt approach in just a few weeks. The EU is targeting the region both as a source of gas to replace Russian gas and a future supplier of green electricity and hydrogen as it seeks to fast-track its clean energy transition.
