Nymex November gas futures continued a seemingly counterintuitive rally on Wednesday, gaining 9.3¢ to $6.93 per million Btu. The November contract’s two-session 46¢ rise comes as a bearish pall is falling on the market with production grinding to new record highs and light shoulder season demand and widespread Hurricane Ian-related power outages in the Southeast taking a toll on gas-fired power. The 12-month strip rose 8.5¢ to $5.83; the 2023 calendar strip was up 8.6¢ at $5.568 (Futures contracts).
