The European Commission has greenlit a second major state-aid support scheme for promising hydrogen technologies, covering a wide range of uses from electricity generation to greener metals production. The government cash is essential, private sector players say, with many project developers telling Energy Intelligence they cannot move their projects forward without government subsidies. Specifically, Brussels says some €5.2 billion ($5.1 billion) can be distributed via state-aid funds to 35 hydrogen infrastructure and hydrogen value chain projects in 13 member states. Brussels says the government funding should unlock an additional €7 billion from the private sector.
