US natural gas futures bolted above $9 per million Btu Tuesday, regaining the ground lost in the wake of the Jun. 8 explosion and fire that shut down Freeport LNG. The September gas contract soared 60.1¢ to $9.329/MMBtu, having climbed $1.74 since last Monday. Trailing contracts through February also adopted $9 handles. The question is whether the rally can hold given increasingly bearish drivers. The 12-month strip rose 41.4¢ to $7.60; the 2023 calendar strip was up 28.7¢ to $6.374 (Futures contracts).
