September gas futures took a 5.9% dive Monday to $7.589 per million Btu, capping a 67.7¢ three-session retreat. The prompt month only hit a day-high $7.917 — 14.7¢ under Friday's close — as traders absorbed weekend revisions to weather models that show much cooler conditions for August and beyond. The 12-month strip fell 30.5¢ to $6.321; the 2023 calendar strip was off 18¢ to $5.423 (Futures contracts).
