BP and Spanish utility Iberdrola plan to work together on electric vehicle (EV) charging and green hydrogen production in Portugal, Spain and the UK. BP said the partners expect to jointly invest more than $1 billion to build a network of up to 11,000 fast charging points for EVs in Spain and Portugal by 2030. The collaboration may be extended to the UK. The pair are also eyeing 600,000 tons/yr of green hydrogen production in the same three countries, powered by new renewable electricity projects. This would include the production of derivatives such as ammonia and methanol to facilitate potential exports of green hydrogen to northern Europe. BP and Iberdrola expect to finalize agreements on the two projects by the end of this year.
