Shell Aviation is preparing to supply German flag carrier Lufthansa with a potential 594 million gallons (1.8 million metric tons) of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) between 2024 and 2030, under the terms of a MOU signed Aug. 1. Negotiations for the delivery of Shell-made SAF at seven airports across the globe are still ongoing. If successful it would be one of the largest commercial SAF deals ever struck and Shell’s biggest SAF commitment to date. Lufthansa is already Europe’s largest SAF buyer whereas up to now Shell has only supplied SAF made by third parties.
