Understanding of the links between oil and natural gas operations and increased seismic activity has improved greatly in the past decade as researchers and operators have collaborated to mitigate earthquakes in places like the Permian Basin and Oklahoma. But research still has a long way to go to fully comprehend the causes of temblors in certain areas, a US Geological Survey (USGS) official said Wednesday.
