Saudi Arabia-based Acwa Power will develop a 1.1 GW wind project in Egypt, the company announced in a statement, marking another milestone in Egypt’s green energy drive as it prepares to host the COP27 climate summit later this year. The project agreement, at an investment value of $1.5 billion, was signed during Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s visit to Cairo this week. As the largest onshore wind farm project in the Middle East, the project brings Acwa Power’s expanding work in Egypt to a total of three projects, after the 120 MW Ben Ban solar independent power projects and the 200 MW Kom Ombo solar plant.
