Soaring European Spot Prices Open Up Big Premium to Asia

Northeast Asian spot LNG prices jumped by $2.50 to $26 per million Btu, according to World Gas Intelligence assessments for deliveries four to eight weeks ahead. But Southwest European spot LNG prices rocketed $14.70 to $34.50/MMBtu, putting them at a substantial premium. The UK National Balancing Point day-ahead price was assessed $2.81 higher at $20.09/MMBtu, while the July front-month ICE contract rose $5.95 to $24.60/MMBtu. Netbacks for Mideast sellers in Asia were about $8.50/MMBtu lower than in Southwest Europe, while UK/Belgian netbacks were over $6/MMBtu higher than in Asia.
