Oil prices surged in volatile trading as tightening fundamentals once again got the better of macroeconomic concerns. China is set to ease its Covid-19 quarantine protocols in June, which could bump oil demand higher even as supplies of crude and especially refined products remain under pressure, largely due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the resulting sanctions.
