Kazakhstan and the international consortium overseeing the Kashagan project are studying a major new expansion that would double oil production from the giant offshore field to 700,000 barrels per day from last year's levels. A final investment decision on the project — dubbed "2B" — is earmarked for 2024 with start-up due six years after that.
