The US Department of Energy (DOE) this week released federal guidance for obtaining a slice of the $6 billion congressional pie meant to save economically struggling US reactors. But only three reactors, all of which are scheduled to permanently shutter by 2026, qualify for the first round of awards, and for them the prospect of federal support may be too little too late.
