On its first day as prompt month, May gas futures rose 27.5¢ to $5.605 per million Btu, challenging long standing resistance at $5.65. If it were to bypass that threshold, the contract could well rise into a $5.80-$6 range, analysts say. However, that would require traders to shrug off bearish storage data on Thursday and focus instead on expectations for an increasingly tight market to come.
