When the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) launches its MethaneSAT satellite next year, it won’t be the first space probe aimed at detecting methane emissions, including those from oil and natural gas operations. But the satellite’s developers are hopeful the data it provides will complement the information gathered from other satellites already in orbit.
