April gas futures tested $5 resistance Thursday, rising 24.2¢ to settle at $4.99 per million Btu as storage prepares to exit March below 1.4 trillion cubic feet. Short-term forecasts for the remainder of the month have also turned colder, adding some unexpected heating loads that could press the seasonal deficit even deeper. The 12-month strip rose 22.1¢ to $5.115; the 2023 calendar strip was up 7.4¢ at $4.048 (Futures contracts).
