The year has gotten off to a roaring start for alcohol-to-jet (ATJ) technology firm LanzaJet. A $50 million investment from Microsoft’s Climate Innovation Fund in January and plans to build a large sustainable fuels plant in Illinois announced in February are a precursor of what’s to come. Output is poised for massive scale-up well beyond an initial goal for 100 million gallons per year by 2025, with its target now set at 1 billion gallons by 2030. “We are talking to every major oil company and major ethanol producer. There are a lot of good things percolating,” says LanzaJet CEO Jimmy Samartzis in an interview with Energy Intelligence.
