China’s Guangdong province added a giant offshore wind farm just before the end of 2021. The 1.7 GW Shapa wind farm — billed as the country’s first gigawatt-scale offshore wind farm — was fully connected to the provincial grid network on Dec. 25, said the project developer, state-owned hydropower giant China Three Gorges (CTG). The Shapa project takes the Guangdong provincial total to a massive 6.5 GW in installed offshore wind capacity, reported the official Nanfang Daily newspaper.
