January Prices Surge in Some Markets, Plummet in Others

A sharp drop in the January gas futures contract settlement from December sent basis markets reeling in Louisiana and Texas for January flow. But the winter premium held or even strengthened in many eastern US markets — one New England point averaged $21.02 per million Btu — while the western US shot higher.
