LNG Spot Prices Ignore Omicron in Continued Ascent

Northeast Asian spot LNG prices increased by $1 to $35 per million Btu, according to World Gas Intelligence assessments for deliveries four to eight weeks ahead. Spot prices in Southwest Europe were assessed $3.35/MMBtu higher at $31.55/MMBtu. The UK National Balancing Point day-ahead price was assessed $2.96 higher at $31.12/MMBtu, while the ICE December front-month contract jumped by $3.72 to $32.01/MMBtu. Netbacks for Mideast sellers in Asia were nearly $3.10/MMBtu higher than in Southwest Europe, while UK/Belgian netbacks were $3.95/MMBtu lower than in Asia.

A Russian gas transit cut to Europe is unlikely, even if tensions between Russia and Ukraine result in military action.
