The most important outcome of COP26 is the agreement on Article 6 of the Paris accord about international cooperation on emissions cuts, according to Mark Lewis, head of climate research at Andurand Capital. What's especially significant in the Article 6 deal is the concept of "corresponding adjustment" that prevents double-counting of emissions reductions, he explains in an interview with Energy Intelligence. Article 6 is seen as a mechanism for facilitating international carbon markets or trading systems to give greater options for complying with emissions targets.
