The relentless advance of electric vehicles (EVs) in China looks unstoppable, with October sales scaling a new monthly peak of 383,000 units for a year-on-year growth of over 170% and posing a rising threat to oil demand, latest data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers showed. Cumulative EV sales over January-October has breached the 2.5 million mark, or nearly double the full-year sales in 2020. At this rate, the 2021 full-year EV sales figure looks set to cross 3 million units.
