COP26: Methane Promises Stack Up, But Action Will Be Key

UN climate negotiations often produce more around the periphery than at the talks themselves. That's playing out with a surge of momentum on tackling methane emissions, a top concern for the oil and gas sector. The US and the EU this week formally launched the Global Methane Pledge they first unveiled earlier this fall. Going forward, however, the question is whether the pledge is — or will be — backed up by country-level policy actions to make the ambitions happen. The answer to that question, ultimately, will determine how difficult it is for the oil and gas industry to meet the goals in practice.
