A series of policy papers and consultations rolled out this week by the UK government on its long-term strategy to make the country a net-zero carbon emitter by 2050 had little of substance for nuclear newbuilds, despite considerable claims beforehand that the government was preparing enormous support schemes for new nuclear. Hopes are still high that Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak will unveil funding for one further twin-unit newbuild next week in his Oct. 27 spending review and autumn budget, but for now UK nuclear advocates are frustrated.
