Wild gyrations in Asian LNG spot prices over the past 18 months have sent shockwaves through the industry. Wide disparities between spot and term prices and possible seller defaults could prompt a rethink of key elements of the term contracts that underpin most Asian trade. And the consensus that supply will remain tight until the mid-2020s, when new greenfield projects start up, has strengthened sellers’ hand.
