Upstream Access Landscape Still Evolving Under Biden

US President Joe Biden took office vowing to ban new offshore drilling and significantly pare back upstream access on federal lands, freezing all new leasing in the early days of the administration. But courtroom losses have forced the administration’s hand, putting fresh lease sales back on the table at least for the US Gulf of Mexico. But questions are mounting around how the Biden administration plans to deal with leasing and access issues going forward — especially next year when mandated lease-sale road maps expire.
