High Prices Trigger China Electricity Crisis

With the official start of China’s heating season still six weeks away, sky-high prices of gas and coal are already leading to power shortages and rationing that threaten economic recovery and turn the spotlight on carbon strategy. Chinese LNG suppliers are worried the slowdown will take a bite out of gas demand growth — although as rising Chinese consumption has been a key driver of the global gas rally, that could take at least a bit of the heat out of the market.
