Domestic jet fuel demand has resumed its recovery but remains significantly below pre-pandemic levels. For the first 15 days of September, India consumed 98,000 b/d of jet fuel, a growth of 29% year on year and 9% gain versus the same period in August, preliminary sales data of state-owned refiners show. However, jet fuel consumption still remains 41% below pre-pandemic levels. Aviation consultancy Capa India said last week that India’s domestic demand for aviation has been suppressed by continued fare and capacity regulation. While domestic carriers are allowed to operate at 65% capacity, most commercial flights overseas remain suspended until Sep. 30 due to the pandemic.
